The current situation in our country is extremely challenging and unsafe. There are external forces calling for Nigeria to be labeled as a failed state due to the high level of insecurity prevailing in the nation.
We must all be deeply concerned about our safety and avoid the misconception that such unfortunate incidents can never happen to us. Even relatives of the President have fallen victim to kidnapping, and individuals such as religious leaders and security personnel are not exempt from these dangers. No one is safe, and nowhere is completely secure. Therefore, it is crucial that we observe strict security protocols alongside our prayers.
Here are some guidelines to follow:
1. Curfew: It is strongly advised that you do not stay out late. Ensure that you return home or remain in close proximity to your residence no later than 6pm.
2. Vehicle Safety: Avoid traveling in vehicles that have noticeable markings such as company names or logos.
3. Solo Travel: When attending events or programs, it is recommended to travel alone rather than in groups.
4. Safety during Attacks: In the event of an attack in your area, switch off all lights, including those from switches with even the smallest indicators. Remove any visible jewelry and wrap your phone in cloth to prevent light reflection that may expose your location. If you hear gunshots, quickly leave your bed and take cover by lying flat beneath it, away from windows and out of sight. Stay close to a wall if possible.
5. Transportation: Only take rides in vehicles that you are familiar with, and opt for public transportation whenever possible.
6. Dressing: When going out, dress in a normal and neat manner, avoiding flashy clothing that may draw attention or make you easily identifiable.
7. Inform Others: Before heading out, inform someone you trust about your destination and the expected time of your arrival. Whenever feasible, avoid going alone.
8. Online Friends: It is strictly advised to never visit individuals whom you have met solely through online platforms, whether in public or at their homes or offices.
9. Public Speech: Speak minimally when in public and refrain from commenting on government or political matters.
10. Phone Usage: Always ensure that you have sufficient call credit on your phone. Additionally, when writing, use proper English and adopt a blog post format.
